Pet beds and nests
Pet beds look simple but quotes vary widely because of filling quality, cover fabric and construction. Specify the filling type and weight, the cover material and washability, and the size chart, and plan for compression packing, which changes freight cost.
Models for this category are sourced on request. Describe what you need, or send a reference link, and we will check whether the manufacturer already has a stock mold you can use with your logo.
What buyers source
Common types are round or oval nests with raised edges, flat mattresses, bolster beds, orthopedic memory foam beds, cave or hooded beds for cats, and removable-cover sofa-style beds. Seasonal variants include cooling covers and plush winter fabrics.
Stock models and customization
Most beds are made from standard patterns, so a stock pattern with your fabric, color and label is often the simplest route. A new pattern costs little in tooling but needs sampling, because comfort and shape are hard to judge from a drawing. The stock model versus custom mold guide covers the choices.
Specifications to define
| Item | What to write |
|---|---|
| Size | Overall and internal sleeping dimensions per size |
| Pet weight range | Per size |
| Cover fabric | Material, weight per square meter, texture, color list |
| Filling | Type (fiberfill, foam, memory foam), weight in grams, density for foam |
| Base | Anti-slip material, waterproof lining if needed |
| Construction | Stitch density, edge reinforcement, zipper position |
| Washability | Removable cover, machine-washable, temperature |
| Branding | Woven or printed label, position |
| Packaging | Compression packing, bag or box, barcode |
Materials and trade-offs
Polyester fiberfill is light and cheap but flattens; foam holds shape and supports older pets and costs more and weighs more. Memory foam responds to temperature and needs a defined density. Plush covers feel soft but attract hair and can pill; tighter weaves clean more easily. A waterproof liner protects the filling but should not make the bed noisy or hot.
Quality checkpoints
- Weigh the finished bed and compare to the spec; low weight often means less filling.
- Compress, then check how fast it recovers.
- Wash a cover and check shrinkage, color bleed and zipper function.
- Check seams for loose threads and any hard parts a pet could chew.
Documents worth asking for
Material test reports for fabrics and foams for your destination market, and flammability or labelling requirements if your market has them for bedding-type products. Check the rules with your broker or a testing lab before ordering.
What drives cost
Filling weight, fabric weight, size count, color count, packaging and compression, and carton volume. Bulky beds make freight a large share of landed cost, so compare carton dimensions and use the landed cost tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why are two beds of the same size priced differently?
Usually filling weight and type, cover fabric weight, and stitching density. Ask for the filling weight in grams and the fabric weight per square meter.
Can beds be vacuum packed?
Many can, and it cuts freight volume. Foam and some fillings can lose shape if left compressed for long, so ask how the factory tests recovery.
How should I define sizes?
By internal sleeping area and overall dimensions in centimeters, plus the pet weight range, with a size chart that matches the sample you measured.
